Speaker: Sugey Cruz-Everts, Esq. Sugey Cruz-Everts, Esq. is the President and founder of the the Tommy Foundation; Director of Autism Spectrum Connections and PA Hispanic Coordinator, Parent Education Network.
The Tommy Foundation is an autism charity based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She also serves as the Pennsylvania Hispanic Coordinator for the national organization Parents Education Network and a Board Director for the Central Pennsylvania autism charity Autism Spectrum Connections Sugey has been providing training and events for families, caregivers, therapists and students across Pennsylvania in English and Spanish to provide a better understanding of the autism condition for nearly five years. As a recipient of the Lancaster Red Rose Award in 2009 and a mother of an ASD child, Sugey is committed to working with non-profits serving various segments of Central Pennsylvania and the Northeast.
Doris Washington is a spiritual writer, poet, disability advocate, and author of two books of poems A Blessing, Caring and Faith, Hope & Love. She resides in Harrisburg, PA with her husband and son John who has autism.
As a result of an incident involving her son and 2 police officers, Doris began her advocacy work and ultimately created a statewide training program for police officers to be aware of, and recognize persons with special needs. She continues to advocate for autism awareness and travels across the country at numerous book signings promoting her books. In her two books Doris has poems about autism. She also has a web site www.poetdoriswashington.com She spreads the awareness of autism and speaks to advocate for autism awareness through her poetry as she seeks to encourage others to look at autism in a positive way in understanding and enhancing the lives of all the individuals of the spectrum.
